Level 3 Adds Adobe Flash Streaming Server Support

Level 3 is in the process of deploying Adobe Flash Media Server 3 across its content deliver infrastructure. The value-add allows customers to deliver true HD streams and makes Level 3's content delivery network (CDN) one of the first to be fully enabled with Adobe's Flash Media Server.

Flash Media Server 3 helps deliver an improved experience with HD streaming capabilities, as well as improved functionality for encoding, protecting and monetizing content. It also enables more concurrent streams to be delivered by the same server. HD streaming integrated with Flash Media Server 3 will be available at the end of April.

For Level 3, this is the latest in a history of announcements documenting the company's HD and streaming transport capabilities. Last week the company announced a tiered distribution service, CDXL, to more efficiently distribute content between the core of its network and the edges. In February, CEO James Crowe said video now accounts for 60 to 70 percent of all the company's IP network traffic.
