YouTube on TVs through Wii and PS3
YouTube announced the latest push to bring online video to the living room, as its previously announced "YouTube for Television" service is now live in beta on Sony Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii units. Users can point the browser of either system to www.youtube.com/tv to get access to YouTube videos on their televisions, as long as the gaming system is connected to the Internet, obviously.
According to the YouTube blog, YouTube for Television, "...offers a dynamic, lean-back, 10-foot television viewing experience through a streamlined interface that enables you to discover, watch and share YouTube videos on any TV screen with just a few quick clicks of your remote control."
YouTube will format the site's interface for TVs by enlarging the text on the site and simplifying navigation. The site also enables auto-play, which allows related videos to play consecutively for a more TV-like experience.
YouTube for Television will be available in 22 countries and 12 languages.
If the service catches on, YouTube's advertising will reach a broader audience; Nintendo sold 10.2 million Wii's in 2008 alone. Bringing its content to the TV also likely will increase the average user interaction time, especially if the offering works as fluidly as YouTube claims. Now that YouTube is selling ads around its search results and premium content, bringing the content to the living room could be a big win for the company.

Oh gentlemen .... how could you? "Sony Playstation 3's and Nintendo Wii's." Apostrophes, chaps, are for possessive forms, not plurals! I have never noted such howlers in Fierce copy before .... please don't allow it to become habit, lest I shall weep for the last bastians of decent grammar and punctuation.

Ha-ha-ha! Serves me right! [Blushes in shame]. Sorry, the standard of copy is always so high on Fierce, thus it shocked me a tad. I and my red cheeks shall creep away now .... :-D
