YouTube trying yet another new ad format

Tools

YouTube is testing a new ad format that lets end-users choose which advertising formats they receive while watching certain online videos on the site. The offering allows users to choose to receive either a longer pre-roll ad or several shorter instream "commercial breaks" during the video.

YouTube Product Manager Phil Farhi announced the new advertising format on the company's blog on Monday.

"We are constantly testing a wide range of options to find the right advertising format for the right content on YouTube," Farhi said. "And we think giving users a say in the process helps our efforts."

YouTube will test the new format on select full-length videos for the next few months. The company has several other new ad formats in testing as it scrambles to find a winning formula for monetizing the 30 billion videos it streams worldwide monthly.
