Yahoo! developing longer-form video content
It appears Yahoo! is attempting to define its baffling online video strategy, as it announced Tuesday that it is developing ideas for longer form online video content, according to a CNET article. The search company is seeking ideas for online video shows, which will be both scripted and unscripted, that run a little longer than five minutes per installment and fit into one of four categories: news, sports, entertainment or finance.
Yahoo! has seen success with shorter content around primetime TV recaps and its very popular fantasy sports leagues, among other programming types, but has yet to develop a coherent strategy of how it will incorporate online video into its media offerings. CEO Carol Bartz, who is winding down units like crazy--including $160 million video bust Maven Networks--has hinted that media will be a focus of the company as it restructures in an attempt to regain momentum lost to Google.
