Warner Bros. will offer movies, TV show episodes in Kaleidescape online video store

Purchases will automatically upgrade to UltraViolet in March 2013

Kaleidescape Inc. today announced a deal with Warner Bros. Digital Distribution to offer WB titles for purchase in its online store.

Founded in 2003, Kaleidescape employs hardware and software in its Kaleidescape Entertainment Appliance Operating System to allow users to view high-quality movies at home or remotely. Targeted for high-end customers who can afford to install home entertainment systems, the hardware includes players, servers, disc vaults and accessories, while the online video store features apps for the iPad and iPhone.

In addition to adding Warner Bros. films to its online store, Kaleidescape said it will upgrade WB titles purchased through the store to UltraViolet in March 2013. UltraViolet, an industry-supported initiative that launched in 2011, allows users to download or stream content across a variety of connected platforms and devices.

Founder, Chairman and CEO of Kaleidescape Michael Malcolm said his company is looking forward to implementing the upcoming changes.

"We couldn't be more excited about working with Warner Bros. and offering this extensive catalog of well-known and well-loved titles to our customers," Malcolm said. "In addition, the inclusion of UltraViolet in our service will give owners of Kaleidescape movie servers a whole new way to enjoy their content."

Among the more popular movies offered by Warner Bros. under this agreement will be the Harry Potter titles and The Lord of the Rings trilogy. According to the Kaleidescape press release, the complete deal includes nearly 3,000 WB films and 8,000 TV episodes.

"This new distribution deal dramatically improves the way customers buy movies which, until now, has remained virtually the same for the past 15 years," said Ralph Tarnofsky, founder and president of Professional Audio Consultants. "Now Kaleidescape customers--who are avid movie collectors--can enjoy a 'no compromise' buying experience."
