VUDU and Brightcove bring ad-supported video to set-top boxes
VUDU and Brightcove announced a partnership that will allow Brigthcove customers to deliver ad-supported online video to set-top boxes via VUDU's technology platform. Sony Music is the first announced customer and is using the service to provide an application that delivers ad-supported music videos from its MyPlay Video Network through the VUDU Labs area of the VUDU client.
The program supports multiple advertising platforms, allowing content providers to use their already-established ad-delivery systems.
"Expanding online video distribution beyond websites to the living room television has been challenging," Chris Johnston, director of technology partnership at Brightcove, said in a prepared statement. "The partnership announced today with VUDU is a significant step forward for media businesses that want to centrally manage distribution and monetization across the Web while also taking advantage of the high-quality TV experience VUDU enables."
The Brightcove integration uses VUDU's Rich Internet Applications platform to deliver a content owner's preset ad-management settings to the set-top box environment.
