Vevo looking beyond YouTube to grow viewership
Music video website Vevo is pulling in some 3.2 billion unique monthly views via clickthroughs from YouTube, but the company thinks it may have better prospects elsewhere--like at Facebbok--and is actively looking for new partners.
Vevo execs said the company has been getting 100 million views a month from a recently signed deal with the social networking site, and they believe that traffic could help them grow to the point where half of their monthly views come from sites other than YouTube. Vevo said some 30 percent of its views in the U.S., Canada and Europe are from sites other than YouTube.
"The activity on Facebook is our greatest chance to get to 50 percent of views off of YouTube," CEO Rio Caraeff told AdAge, which would be a financial boon since it doesn't have to share revenue with the social networking site, as it does with YouTube.
Vevo, which launched in 2009, has seen its mobile numbers soar with the advent of the iPad and the Xbox game console.
