SPOTLIGHT: AOL docks with Brightcove
AOL announced Tuesday it plans to discontinue its own online video platform to switch to Brightcove 3. AOL will also make its online video advertising systems compatible with Brightcove's platform.
The move comes after AOL spent several years and lots of R&D cash developing its own proprietary online video systems. With the increased competition in online video delivery and decreased costs of managing video solutions, AOL decided it was wise to discontinue its own in-house efforts and outsource to Brightcove.
Of course, it doens't hurt to know AOL took a minority stake in Brightcove in 2006.
