Sony augmented its Playstation Network online video offering Tuesday by striking a deal with NBC Universal that will make NBCU movies and TV shows available for paid download and rental. The new content addition brings the Playstation Network store's total title count to more than 1,400 movies and 4,500 TV show episodes, according to VentureBeat.

A Sony rep from the Playstation store said the content will be available in both standard and high definition resolution. New TV shows such as "The Office" and "30 Rock" will be available for download the day after they air. The prices will range from $2.99 to $5.99 to rent the content, and $9.99 to $14.99 to download it to own.

One wonders whether this offering will catch on in a significant way, as most of the television shows being offered are available for free on Hulu.
