Shaw adds TV Everywhere product to lineup in western Canada

Canadian cable company Shaw Communications has launched its abridged version of TV Everywhere, offering subscribers what is essentially an expanded video on demand library without any live component.

The Calgary-based MSO's Shaw Video on Demand doesn't exactly give viewers the keys to the castle, but subscribers will be able to search and order programs on VOD.SHAW.CA to enjoy either on TV or on their computers via its VoD Player. Shaw said it plans to expand its VoD library. Shaw's TVE approach is a little more "pay-as-you-go" heavy than most, but charges will depend upon what subscription level a customer carries.

Shaw has struck deals with Universal Studios, Maple Pictures and MGM to supply movies on its online video portal, and it will gain more content once its deal to acquire Canwest Global's TV assets gets government and creditor approval.

"Technology continues to evolve with the ability to watch content on multi-platforms," Shaw president Peter Bissonnette said. "That's why Shaw is investing in bringing exceptional content delivered in various ways."

Shaw joins Rogers Communication, Quebec's Groupe Videotron, Bell TV, and Quebec-based Radio-Canada in offering some flavor of TV Everywhere to customers.

Big deal! People, I've had this "revolutionary" service for 2 years now. It's at seetvpc.com.

How sad for Shaw investors, with some of dumbest business moves made in last two years and they just keep coming. And just too textbook. From those too old not "getting it" but insisting they do on BOD, and worse as to even think they have a chance to compete with the young super minds at Google in Mountain View or the keen kids now hurting Rodgers in Ontario and from every angle possible. The young brokers see Rodgers and Shaw as simply road kill about to happen and seems the old Montreal and NYC support losing faith daily? Some big institutional investors are far more than talking just exit strategy and Asper kid wanting to destroy Shaw financially with Bell a given.

The key question are Shaw Brothers and Mr. B the leadership the new game needs against the new brains in Canadian wireless who really understand media and communications and VOD and not just more MBA's faking it from business paperback quotes and worse added with a bunch of middle manager morons thinking cheer leading is marketing leadership - and all this insanity at shareholders expense.

Shaw's a mess and Shaw knows it and shareholders don't. The samrt ones have left or are leaving as with Bell and Rodgers to where their business school profs said they can make a difference and get noticed. No conversation or engagement bull will save Shaw and they better start firing those so agreeable with big pay checks and get those who challenge with future vision and not buzz words at best? Some too afraid of Jim Shaw to help him and other who don't want to hurt Brad's feelings is absurd. All those around the Shaws paid far too much to be trusted beyond their own clear self-interest and short term goals.
