Rumors that Google is buying Brightcove appear to be false, despite Multiple outlets picking up PBS MediaShift editor Mark Glaser's Twitter report that Google is set to pay between $500 million and $700 million for the leading online video platform. A Brightcove public relations contact said the company refuses to comment on rumors and will have no further comment. Glaser, citing information "from a source close to the rumored talks," said it would create synergies with Google's other video property, eh YouTube, including access to Brightcove's long list of paying customers.

Looks like these rumors will mirror previous reports of a Limelight-Brightcove merger that never came to fruition.
