Ooyala takes its online video analytics to another level
Online video platform Ooyala says it has deployed Cassandra as its new Database system, helping the Mountain View, Calif.-based company to offer enhanced analytics creating a backbone for its new Business Intelligence platform for video that will go live later this year.
Cassandra is the distributed database system that Facebook developed and open-sourced in 2008. The database brings together the scalability and reliability of both Amazon's Dynamo and Google's Bigtable storage systems in a single data model. Cisco, Facebook, Digg and IBM are all using Cassandra to manage large data sets for various applications.
With Cassandra, Ooyala will enhance its existing analytics offering and launch a new Business Intelligence system later this year.
Ooyala says it has the scale to handle a tremendous amount of data on a very granular level.
Ooyala said many of its publishers have asked for deeper analytics and said its new database will be able to give them insight into how content is consumed and by what demographic. The result, Ooyala sais, is that publishers will be able to maximize engagement and monetization.
Ooyala said it will be able to report on content performance at the page level, by region, city and DMA, which is especially critical for advertisers and marketers trying to target ad campaigns.
