Ooyala launches Japanese-language OVP

Online video platform Ooyala launched its video publishing platform in Japan today, offering a full range of video publishing services in Japanese. Earlier this month, the company announced it was partnering with Japanese telco sub NTT Smartconnect. Ooyala will provide hosting, analytics, syndication and ad serving features for customers on its white-label video distribution platform, which will automatically detect browser language settings and adjust the player controls and closed captioning accordingly.

The Japanese broadband market is expanding rapidly with more than 75 percent of the population having fiber to the home (FTTH), and the government pushing for complete broadband deployment across the entire country by 2011.

"Online video is revolutionizing media consumption globally, and the Japanese market represents an exciting opportunity for us ," says Chris Wong, Ooyala SVP of Corporate Development. "With the deployment of this high-speed broadband infrastructure and mass proliferation of web-connected mobile devices -- this will make it possible for companies to leverage our platform to deliver richer and more engaging video content directly to their consumers."

The launch is a product of a May MoU that Ooyala and NTT Smartconnect signed, and gives Ooyala access to some of Japan's largest media companies.
