NBC, Adobe launch NFL streaming video

NBC continued its aggressive expansion in online video with the announcement of a partnership with Adobe that will provide live streaming video of Sunday Night Football games. The partnership marks the first time NFL games will be available via live streaming video. NBC has worked to capitalize the live streaming video market over a busy summer that saw it set records for number of video streams viewed, during both the Beijing Olympics and the Democratic National Convention.

A plus over NBC's Olympic streaming video is that live commentary will be available from the NBC Football commentary team of John Madden, Al Michaels and Andrea Kramer.

NBC will stream a game per week using Adobe's Flash player, which has achieved near-ubiquity as it is installed on 98 percent of internet-connected desktops, according to an Adobe release.

The presentation will also come complete with extra interactive features, such as ability to choose camera angle, playback of in-game highlights, live statistics and a live blog with NBC Football staff.

Time will tell if NBC Football online catches on, as it may take a lot more heavy lifting to get die-hard fans away from the television sets where they've become accustomed to viewing games.
