Music videos foster Disney, VEVO collaboration

Pair to develop co-branded complementary products

Walt Disney Co.'s (NYSE: DIS) Disney Interactive and music video and entertainment platform VEVO have announced plans to join forces and create "family-friendly music and video experiences," according to a press release issued Monday.

The end result of the collaboration is that Disney Interactive will partner with VEVO in the production of music-focused original programming that includes coverage of "exclusive events, music video premieres and live music experiences with Disney recording artists." Disney will also feature videos from VEVO's catalog on Disney.com and will "curate and program the family-friendly music video experience across VEVO's online, mobile/tablet and connected TV platforms on Disney.com," the companies said.

While the key to the relationship is music, the important factor for both parties is the video that accompanies the sound.

"Music is a key component of the Disney.com offering and deepens the premium family entertainment experience we offer guests online," Jimmy Pitaro, co-president of Disney Interactive, said in the press release. "And now we are amplifying the Disney experience by partnering with the world's leading digital music video platform as well."

VEVO, in turn, gets access to Disney so it can "offer quality music programming for families to enjoy together and on the viewing platform of their choice," added Rio Caraeff, the company's president-CEO.

VEVO, the release noted, has a catalog of more than 50,000 music videos from which Disney will be able to select.
