What’s the value of online video? Well, according to some historians, it may well prove to be a valuable tool to keeping history alive.

The Anne Frank House museum website posted the only known existing film footage of her leaning out an Amsterdam window and looking at a street scene below her on YouTube on Sept. 29. The video already has been seen 1.77 million times.

The footage was shot about a year before she and her family went into hiding during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands.

There’s also an Anne Frank channel on YouTube that allows viewers to explore her life through images.
