Las Vegas, Nevada - On Tuesday, one of Hollywood's most successful creators outlined his vision of entertainment over the next five years. Vegas native and "CSI" creator Anthony E. Zuiker presented a world of radical change where multimedia projects would have fewer commercial sponsors and products would be embedded into multi-screen presentations. TV, web, voice, text messaging, YouTube, and even print would cross-pollinate, linked together to drive audience engagement and offer a richer experience in an increasingly impatient world.

Within Zuiker's Brave New World, newspapers should shut their printing presses down tomorrow, DVDs will be dead within 4 years, televisions will be AI-smart and know who is in the room watching so they can customize advertising to the viewers.  The days of 30 second ad spots are "over" with a world of on-demand TV and fast-forwarding through commercials.

Below, you'll find Fierce VoIP's tweets on Zuiker's keynote presentation; they have been edited for readability, with some abbreviations expanded.

  • Zuiker: People will "read" newspaper on smart device, change news every 15 minutes (I think this is his self-admitted ADD talking..
  • Zuiker: Question: "What should newspapers do to save themselves?" Shut presses down TOMORROW, interactivity, inter paper, web cams, social community
  • Zuiker: TV will "know" when you are in room 5 years from now, AI system to give personalized ads. Preschedule TV makes no sense in future!
  • Zuiker: Would put products in a book, on web, in a video; put products into a storyline, give them an active part in storyline to make $$
  • Zuiker: Different levels of immersion, cross-platform, phone, text, YouTube, "cyberbridge" between media types.
  • Zuiker: "Give people a christmas present every day" - Marc Andressen
  • Zuiker: NY Times, newspapers dead in 18 months, magazines dead, DVDs dead in 4 years, multi-platform has to reach all people
  • Zuiker: Looking to tell stories in diff ways, take ad dollars, put to work in narrative, "Days of 30 second spots are over"
  • Zuiker: Had a series of "cyberfailures" but at end of day, something would stick. How to engage in cross-platform storytelling?
  • Zuiker: Spent $300K in Second Life for destination gamers, 4,000 uniques per day for 9 months, BUT second life not a great experience...
  • Zuiker: Put Suicide Girls on CSI; had 400% increase on web WHILE WATCHING TV
  • Zuiker: Started hiding web stuff on show; makes claim for first time (Guess he missed the "Homicide" that did it first...)
  • Zuiker: Content now king, shift after 9/11, went to study Silicon Valley, Perceive self as "content creator"
  • Zuiker: CSI: Sept 2000 start,22M , now reaches 75M per week, reaches every country but 6 (Iran, NK, Iraq, other-stans)
  • Zuiker: Vegas past, ran tram at Mirage, marketing for Mirage, got a call from William Morris to sell first moive script .. sold script for $35K, resold for $1M
  • Zuiker: Bet on Michigan State last night, lost
  • Metaswitch forum: Giddy "CSI" video montage to intro Zuiker...
