Limelight Networks targets enterprise website delivery with LimelightSITE

Tools

Limelight Networks, a leading content delivery network, announced LimelightSITE Tuesday, a comprehensive new program focused on optimizing total-site delivery to lower unit cost delivery of static, dynamic and rich media content alike. The service currently has 100 enterprise customers across many verticals, and it utilizes Limelight's global network to deliver content at "CDN speed," according to the company.

The new offering shows an increased push by Limelight to diversify its core video delivery business and to capture an increased share of the enterprise market.

Paul Alfieri, senior director of corporate communications, said typical CDN site delivery has to route through the public Internet, encountering "traffic jam" situations that cause the delivery to be slowed.

"Other CDNs can tunnel through the public Internet congestion, much like you would take an exit or alternate road if the eight-lane highway was backed up," Alfieri said. "The content eventually gets to the end-user, but inevitably, you have to hit the brakes at some point. LimelightSITE doesn't have any of these issues, because it's delivered to the last mile on its own private road. The added site performance from using the product leads to increased customer satisfaction and performance on corporate websites."

The Limelight network utilized by LimelightSITE connects more than 9 petabytes of storage to more than 900 last-mile access networks globally, according to the company. To additionally enhance site performance, Limelight employs its OriginDirect routing technology that bypasses public Internet bottlenecks by using Limelight's global fiber backbone.
