Limelight launches new mobile video products
Limelight Networks announced two products it has integrated from its acquisition of mobile content delivery technology firm Kiptronic. LimelightREACH and LimelightADS leverage Limelight's global network and Kiptronic's technology to deliver ad-supported online video to a wide range of mobile devices without altering the customer's publishing process, according to the company. LimelightREACH auto-detects a user's end device to deliver the correctly formatted content, while LimelightADS helps publishers drop advertising into video games, mobile apps and widgets.
Limelight's Paul Alfieri, senior director of corporate communications, said the company's profile of supported mobile devices sets the offering apart from other mobile content delivery solutions.
"Over the past month, a lot of discussion in mobile delivery has been around the iPhone, understandably," Alfieri said. "But for the mobile market to come to fruition, publishers want to reach as wide an audience as possible on as many mobile devices as they can. There are literally thousands of mobile devices, and while there is a great discussion about being iPhone-ready currently, LimelightREACH is ready for all the media-capable phones."
Alfieri said the products will allow publishers to start their mobile strategy small and scale it gradually, while also providing the best possible end-user experience, regardless of device. Limelight also announced it will allow publishers to use both products with other CDN services, but Alfieri was quick to add that the company will provide incentives to using the products in tandem with Limelight CDN services.
