Limelight buys mobile content provider Kiptronic

Tools

Limelight Networks announced it acquired Kiptronic, a company focused on multiplatform content delivery and monetization. Kiptronic allows publishers to distribute content and ads to multiple devices, specifically mobile and connected devices, in the appropriate format without changes to existing publishing tools.

Kiptronic currently has an impressive roster of clients including Fox, Conde Nast, The Economist and NBC.com.

"A sweeping change in consumer behavior is driving a migration of media consumption from the PC to a wider variety of Internet-connected and mobile devices," Limelight CEO Jeff Lunsford said in a statement. "Today, the distribution and monetization of content on these devices is complex and difficult to implement in a scalable fashion. The combination of Limelight Networks' distributed computing and delivery platform with Kiptronic's device-targeting and dynamic ad insertion technologies will allow us to provide the world's largest media and entertainment companies a streamlined and scalable solution to this problem."

UPDATE: The deal was valued around $12 million and included a mix of Limelight stock and cash, according to industry analyst Dan Rayburn. Kiptronic, which delivers mobile video advertising for NBC.com, fits nicely in Limelight's strategy to be the premier content delivery network for mobile video
