News Corp. chairman Rubert Murdoch and NBC Universal CEO Jeff Zucker added more fuel to the fire of rumors about possible subscriptions and pay-per-view programming on their joint venture Hulu at an investor conference in New York Tuesday. Asked about the possibility of subs for Hulu, Murdoch gave no firm commitments, but alluded they were in the works.

"Are we looking at it with a view toward adding subscription services and pay per view? Yes we are," Murdoch said, according to Multichannel News. "No decisions have been made yet."

Zucker said the online video portal is ahead of plan and still focused on innovative ways to monetize through an ad-supported model, though he also said NBC would be open to other monetization strategies for the site.

In other Hulu happenings, Soleil Securites media analyst Laura Martin said the online video site could cost TV networks more than $900 per viewer if the networks begin losing audiences to Hulu, due to the disparity in advertising pricing between the broadcast and online models. In a MediaPost report, Martin said increasing content options on the site would lead to a downturn in cable subscriptions, leading to the eventual loss of billions of dollars of TV advertising revenue.
