Innovid, an online video ad insertion technology company, announced the launch of its In-Video Advertising platform Wednesday and announced MSN/Sympatico as its lead customer for the product.

Innovid's platform maps and tags online videos for appropriate space to insert a Flash-based ad, which Innovid then delivers to the correct location complete with interactivity features. The company calls the technology "Frame-based Meta-Data protocol."

"For the last few years, engagement has been one of the most buzzed terms in online marketing," said Veronica Holmes, senior director of broadband innovation and strategy for Sympatico / MSN. "From the initial test results for our In-Video campaign with Innovid, the company succeeds in turning the hype into real viewer engagement metrics and in providing value for publishers, marketers and users alike."

Innovid CEO Zvika Netter said the company is already profitable on a per-campaign basis, and that it generates revenue through CPM and CPA deals with publishers and licensing arrangements.

"With the challenges of online video monetization well-documented, we're excited to be introducing a new way for brands to dynamically target and engage prospects in online video with our partners Sympatico / MSN," Netter said. "The initial engagement statistics we're seeing give us good reason to believe that Innovid will play a role in solving the video monetization puzzle."

Innovid is the latest entrant into the product placement and interactive online video ad market. It joins companies like Keystream, Overlay.tv, and Klickable.tv in embedding different formats of advertisements and social media features into the actual online videos.
