Entone and Edgeware integrate servers, video gateways

Entone and Edgeware announced Wednesday that Entone's IP video gateways are now fully integrated with Edgeware's video-on-demand servers. While the integrated offerings will be targeted at service providers deploying IPTV services, Edgeware CEO Joachim Roos said in an interview that these next-gen gateways could be used to serve online video as part of eventual content offerings.

Shane Walker, IMS Research Analyst and author of the recently published Market Opportunities for Internet Video to the TV report, highlighted this opportunity:  "With the integrated solution from Entone and Edgeware, operators have the opportunity to deliver value-added services such as over-the-top video and VOD without the CAPEX typically associated with an IPTV offering."

Provisioning online video content in an over-the-top service structure along with traditional IPTV functionality could serve as an interesting value-added component compared to other traditional video offerings.
