EdgeCast expand CDN network with POPs in Paris, Singapore

Tools

CDN EdgeCast Networks is announcing upgrades to its network, adding two POPs in 2010, one in Singapore, the other in Paris. The Los Angeles-based company said its CDN now interconnects with more than 800 user networks and ISPs globally, giving customers a better chance to serve content directly to the network to which end users are connected. The Singapore POP already is up and running, the company said; Paris should be online in the first half of the year.

"With these new points of presence, we bring our customers content even closer to their end users' digital doorsteps in both Asia and Europe," said Alex Kazerani, CEO of EdgeCast Networks. "This growing footprint means our customers can often ... completely bypassing the increasingly-congested public Internet. This means our customers can be confident that even their largest files will be delivered quickly to any computer in the world."

EdgeCast says its expanding network specifically will give online video files, as well as other large files, a more direct route to the end user, avoiding hops across the Internet that slow down a files' movement and, in the case of online video, create choppy delivery because of latency issues.
