Dish Network is bringing live TV programming to subscribers' iPads, iPhones, BlackBerries and smartphones that use the Android operating system next month, the Associated Press reports.

Starting in September, iPad, iPhone and BlackBerry users who are Dish subscribers will be able to use the Slingbox from Sling Media, or Dish's HD DVR with Slingbox functionality. While users will have access to live programming, they'll have to watch whatever's on at home, the AP reports, unless they have a second tuner. The service will roll out to Android users in October.

EchoStar, which owns Dish, purchased Sling Media in 2007 for $380 million, giving it a substantial piece of place-shifting technology. The Slingbox tie to the iPad takes it even further, helping Dish establish a more attractive TV Everywhere challenge to companies like Comcast and Time Warner Cable that have also begun to develop TV Everywhere offerings.
