Cont' interview - Roxanne Austin, CEO Move Networks
FierceOV: Move Networks has been criticized in the past for lacking just that sense of focus. How do you plan to integrate divisions and define product roadmaps to alleviate this concern?
Austin: If you talk to anyone that's ever worked with me before, there will be no walls anymore. We're here to win for Move, whether you work in engineering, finances, HR, we need to identify common priorities and pursue them as a company. It's one of my main jobs to clearly articulate what the priorities are. We need to examine and truly understand where we have the largest and fastest product, then focus and execute.
There are things I know we're going to make happen, and we're having conversations already. We'll be in touch soon with things we can give you tangibly as to this point.
FierceOV: How do you think your experience in leadership at DirecTV will help you as you join Move Networks?
Austin: With DirectTV, when I came on as COO, it was a $1 billion business, but we lacked focus. I'm not saying Move lacks focus, but it took focus to turn DirecTV into a solid business and I think we'll have to focus more here too. At DirecTV, we already had a great customer base and a successful product, but we had to make a better business, and redesign many aspects of it from scratch. That took tremendous focus and rolling out the changes through the organization wasn't easy, but with focus it was possible.
The problem was that people in our business couldn't articulate what our business was and what we where trying to achieve. We refined it to: How do we get customers, how do we keep them, and what do we offer to increase revenue from existing customers. If it doesn't get us a new customer, keep an old one, or build revenues, we're simply not going to do it, and we built each individual part of the team around that initiative.
In Move's case, it's not completely remaking parts of the company from scratch as it was at DirecTV in some cases. It's more about making sure our opportunities, activities, and engineering roadmap support our key priorities.
FierceOV: Where do you see Move Networks in a year, if you're successful in meeting these goals?
Austin: I'd like to see us set the standard for how people are going to monetize content online. I'd like us to have become an indispensable partner to the content industry in delivering new revenue streams. We've been very successful with this in the past, and we want to blow people away, show the right people what we're capable of now with our end-to-end solution.
