comScore: YouTube tops for online video in March, Hulu still growing fast
Hulu's unique monthly viewers increased by 20 percent in March, continuing its rapid growth and surpassed Yahoo! as the third-largest online video site, accounting for 380 million video views compared with Yahoo!'s 334 million. Overall, viewers watched 14.5 billion online videos in March, up 11 percent from February's total, which equates to an average of 5.5 hours of online video per user.
Google's YouTube was no surprise at the top of the comScore rankings of online video sites, as it showed almost 6 billion videos and attracted more than 100 million unique visitors in March. Fox Interactive followed in second with 437 million video views, but its numbers actually decreased from February, meaning Hulu is on track to move into the second position at some point soon. It only needs to deliver 57 million more videos per month to do so, considering Fox stays even. If Hulu can keep up its 20 percent growth rate, it will pass Fox sometime in May.
Microsoft Sites, Viacom Digital, CBS Interactive, Turner Network and Disney Online rounded out the top 10 for the month, all figures according to comScore's Video Metrix.
