comScore data shows 34% increase in online video views
comScore released its online video viewing statistics for November 2008 on Monday, and it was no surprise to see YouTube still firmly in the lead among online video sites. YouTube served 5.1 billion videos in November, putting it way ahead of its nearest competitor, Fox Interactive Media, which accumulated 439 million views in the month, more than 80 percent of which were seen on MySpace.
Another salient point from the numbers was the 34 percent increase from November 2007 in the number of videos viewed per viewer. Online video viewers took in more than 12.6 billion videos in November 2008, viewing an average of 4.5 hours of content per viewer, with an average length of 3.1 minutes per video. Although, on Hulu.com, the average video was viewed for 11.9 minutes, which comScore reports as the highest average viewing time of the top 10 sites in total viewers.
