Cisco's Flip Video Camera to star in multimillion online, TV ad campaign

Uber micro-videocam Flip Video is coming to the big screen--at least the big TV screen--with a 4- to 8-week run of 10-, 15-, and 30-second clips shot by users ranging from skateboard legend Tony Hawk to John and Jane Doe as part of a multimillion dollar advertising push by new owner Cisco. The commercials and videos also will be shown on online social media sites and in rich banner ads.

“Do You Flip,” is taking videos that are shot on Flips, the spawn of Pure Digital Technologies, and using it to show just how fine its video capabilities are, says a report in Mediapost. The campaign includes video harvested from a Facebook campaign that asked Facebook users to send in “flipable moments,” that then were culled for usable clips.

“The campaign is built on 100% user-generated content shot on Flip Video cameras,” said Jodi Lipe, director of marketing for Cisco consumer business group. “We know how many people love the flip, so he wanted to tap into consumers who use the product.”

Mediapost reports between 25 and 45 spots will be created, with about 18 percent of the ad budget being used to get the spots placed on Facebook, MySpace, Hulu, YouTube and on several online retail sites.

Cisco bought Pure Digital and Flip for $590 million in March.
