Cisco CEO: Video most important next-gen play

During the company's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call, Cisco CEO John Chambers made it clear once again that video is a big part of the telecom and networking equipment giant's growth strategy.

"We continue to believe that video architecture is the most important Web 2.0 next-generation play and is one of the key competitive advantages versus our peers," Chambers said in the company's fiscal fourth-quarter earnings call. "...For example, our video strategy from the home to the service provider to the enterprise is being described by many of our customers I talk with as world class innovation and have equal importance world-class execution."

He added that customer momentum from the acquisition of Flip Camera maker Pure Digital is strong, and that the company shipped its first $1 million-plus order of Flip video cameras to an enterprise customer. Cisco is also investing heavily in next-gen routers like the ASR-9000 for the six-fold increase in video traffic it predicts over the by 2012.
