China blocks YouTube

Tools

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that China has blocked access to mega video site YouTube. The Chinese government began slowly blocking access to YouTube over the past 24 hours, according to the report.

China cut YouTube off last year to prevent videos of anti-Communist protestors fighting with police over Tibet from making the rounds online.

"[The] Chinese government has taken up management of the network according to the laws," the Journal reported a Chinese official as saying during a press conference on Tuesday.

YouTube has successfully negotiated with countries who have blocked access in the past, including Iran, Pakistan, Turkey and Thailand, so the company could find a way to make the Chinese drop the ban.
