CDN EdgeCast lands Canadian telco Telus in big client win

Canadian telco Telus and EdgeCast Networks have entered into an agreement that will allow Telus to resell the content delivery network's services, helping to position the carrier as a premier provider of global content delivery network services and enhanced local content delivery services throughout Canada.

"The EdgeCast partnership aligns with our strategic intent to unleash the power of the Internet to TELUS customers at home, in the workplace and on the move. With this partnership we can now deliver a complete Internet experience with unsurpassed quality and security over smartphones, tablets, PC's and TV's," said David Fuller, chief marketing officer at Telus. Fuller also said the deal "sets up Telus to compete in the rapidly-growing local CDN market."

The EdgeCast network interconnects with more than 900 user networks around the world, delivering customer content from strategically placed servers that are closer to the consumer, and completely bypassing Internet congestion.

EdgeCast has been in growth mode of late, completing a $10 million Series C "growth" financing round in April, announcing a partnership with Deutsche Telekom in January, as well as expanding its networks with new POPs in Paris and Singapore.
