CBS News is joining the streaming video industry with plans to stream all of its "Evening News" and breaking news broadcasts with Ustream. CBS News becomes the first major broadcast news division to live stream scheduled programming.

The strategy could prove to be very successful for the venerable news division of CBS, as it may help establish a lead on the other networks as it brings breaking video news to the Web.

Ustream CEO Brad Hunstable told Silicon Alley Insider the partnership will cash in on traffic to "viral news" like the recent US Airways landing in the Hudson. A CBS News executive said the deal will help the broadcaster, once home of esteemed anchor Walter Cronkite, connect with a younger demographic. The CBS News content will go live on Ustream.tv and all CBS News properties simultaneously, according to the companies.
