Brightcove expands in Japan

Tools

Brightcove announced major customer wins in Japan Tuesday, part of the company's push to move into global markets. The customer announcements include Tokyo Broadcasting Systems, Asahi Breweries Group, Sony Music Japan, and a major Japanese entertainment magazine publisher, Shueisha Publishing.

Brightcove CEO Jeremy Allaire mentioned the company's intentions to use recent funding to expand internationally in an interview with FierceOnlineVideo in January.

"Japan is a sophisticated and fast-growing online video market," Allaire said in a prepared statement. "Brightcove's growth in Japan is an important contributor to our worldwide expansion. We are very excited to see the wide-ranging adoption of our online video platform among some of Japan's most well-known and highly-respected media businesses and brand marketers."

The companies will use Brightcove's white-label online video platform for a number of different uses, including on-demand online video, direct-to-consumer marketing promotions, and niche publication video channels, according to the release. Brightcove's operations in Japan will be operated through its majority-owned subsidiary, Brightcove Japan, which was founded in early 2008.
