Boxee, the Internet video to the TV company that has drawn heat from Hulu, announced it has raised a $6 million round of Series B funding led by General Catalyst Partners. Previous investors Spark Capital and Union Square Ventures also participated, according to the New York Times' Bits blog.

The company, which has its software integrated into a variety of OTT devices, has drawn the ire of big media, due to its provisioning of content to the living room that broadcasters want to control. Additional web video content on the television is viewed as a serious threat to the lucrative business models of broadcasters and cable companies.

Boxee CEO Avner Ronen said his strategy is to aggregate video services on Boxee to make it attractive to advertisers and device manufacturers who want to streamline negotiations with content providers.
