Blockbuster announced a partnership to place Blockbuster OnDemand on Samsung broadband-capable HDTVs and Blu-Ray players later this year. It's about time Blockbuster began to line up device manufacturers to embed its service, because its main competitor Netflix has racked up at least a half-dozen of these deals in the past six months, including the same Samsung Blu-Ray players included in the Blockbuster deal.

Netflix has deals with Sony, Microsoft Xbox, Roku, TiVo, and LG, just to name a few, while Blockbuster has failed to make a serious dent in the connected devices market.

While each individual deal won't represent a major market share shift or revenue driver for either company, whichever has the most success in winning deals in aggregate will gain a sizable advantage. For now, it looks like that's going to be Netflix, which is no solace to Blockbuster, which is currently listed as a "going concern" for a bankruptcy filing.
