Anystream, an online video encoding and delivery provider, has merged with Voxant, a content syndication company, creating a major player in the online video syndication market. The move is a bold prediction that online video syndication will lead to the rapid growth so many analysts anticipate in this space.

Anystream has built a substantial client base, first with transcoding services, and then with content management, including the successful management of NBC's on-demand online video service for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

Voxant serves more than 30,000 customers with licensed content from more than 400 publishers, according to company figures.

The merger creates a more robust and dynamic offering for the two companies' clients, but also brings more expectations of profitability in an already crowded market segment that is growing more slowly than rampant bullish predictions.

Synergies created by the new company should drive total costs down eventually. Both companies have received substantial private equity venture cap, so there will be pressure to deliver ROI sooner rather than later.
