NAB 2009 - Adobe ramps up push to bring Flash to set-top boxes, HDTVs

Tools

LAS VEGAS - Adobe announced Monday it will integrate its Flash video technology into set-top boxes and broadband-enabled HDTVs, with product launches beginning in the second half of 2009. Bringing the ubiquitous file format for online video onto connected devices could be a boon for content providers seeking to port their content directly to the living room.

"Coming generations of consumers clearly expect to get their content wherever they want on it, on any device, when they want it," Bud Albers, chief technology officer of the Disney Interactive Media Group, told the New York Times.

As part of the announcement, Adobe announced several crucial partnerships that will enable Flash integration on connected devices, including Comcast, Netflix and Broadcom. Previous announced partner Intel will participate as well.
