2012 Telecom M&A: The story continues to be consolidation

Both vendors and service providers ink big deals in 2012

Industry consolidation was the continuing big trend in 2012, according to FierceTelecom's fourth annual M&A roundup. On the vendor side, this was highlighted by the big deals Cisco (Nasdaq: CSCO) and Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERIC) completed. On the service provider side, Consolidated Communications (Nasdaq: CNSL), which acquired SureWest, and Zayo, which grabbed AboveNet, led the way, although there were a number of other notable smaller deals as well.
