PermissionTV and Move Networks announced a strategic partnership today that will combine PermissionTV's interactive video app platform and Move Networks's adaptive HD streaming technology. The partnership will deliver high-quality video streams to customers that are also interactive and mashable. PermissionTV focuses on video application platforms that allow for more non-linear online video viewing experiences, while retaining TV quality feeds; Move Networks is a leader in adaptive HD streaming technology.
Matt Kaplan, Chief Strategy Officer for PermissionTV, said Move's technology will enable new levels of interaction and quality of video for customers.
"As we develop this partnership, users will be able to search titles for their favorite performer and view their specific performances without typical buffering and pausing in streaming video," Kaplan said. "The partnership with Move gives us a truly lean-back model for customers to create personal viewing experiences without time-consuming searches."
Move Networks representatives echoed Kaplan's praise of the partnership.
"It's a great opportunity for Move to apply PermissionTV's software to existing clients from the ground up," said David Rice, vice president of marketing for Move. "It will also help with future clients who come to us and want to give their users more interactivity with their video assets."
Rice said he hadn't seen any push-back from consumers on HD-quality feeds, even though they are more expensive to produce. He mentioned lower costs and efficiencies that have enabled HD to be more marketable to smaller media players.
"People aren't saying ‘I don't want to engage HD because it's too expensive,'" Rice said. "The quality will help drive monetization, because we at Move believe that quality pays, because it leads to incremental increases in viewing time and interaction time, which give you more ad impressions."
